Security personnel believed to have
been drawn from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Ghana
Police Service have carried out a search at the home of Captain Edmund Koda
(rtd), the head of security of opposition leader Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The raid is said to have been
carried out late afternoon Thursday March 24, 2016 at the former military man’s
abode at Weija, near Accra.
In a related development, another
raid by a similar team of security men happened a few hours later at about 7pm
at the Danquah Institute. The operation, according to Class News sources,
targeted the office of Perry Okudzeto, the deputy director of communications of
the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
It is believed the two exercises by
security operatives were part of a search for vital information towards the
prosecution of three South African ex-police officers arrested this week and
arraigned before court for activities deemed to be threatening the security of
the state.
The three: Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis
(rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani,
45, were apprehended by the BNI at Agona Duakwa last week for handing down
techniques in guarding and crowd control to 15 individuals at the El Capitano
Hotel.
The 15 were to be hired as private
security for the NPP’s flagbearer and his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,
towards the 2016 elections.
The three have been charged with
providing unlawful training and false declaration, which they have pleaded not
guilty to and have each been granted a GHS20,000 bail.
