People’s Party (PPP) has sent a strong message to the ruling National
Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)
that “the days of party strongholds are indeed over.”
“Ghanaians may no longer base their vote on strongholds and tribal sentiments but on policies and principles,” the PPP said.
The
PPP, which is poised to take the reins of government come November 7,
made this observation during its nationwide tour of the ten (10) regions
of the country.
The tour, “Awake and Vote for Change,” which
kick-started Friday, April 15th, 2016 in the Ashanti region, took the
PPP to Tepa Ahafo Ano.
Led by the party’s National Chairman,
Nii-Allotey Brew-Hammond, the team visited communities such as Katapie,
Suponsu, Boagyaa 2, Tete Kurom, Kyekyewere, Asushhiaye, Ankasi and
Dwaehu all in Tepa Ahafo Ano constituency.
Mr. Brew-Hammond, who
was delighted with the reception accorded to the party in the region,
noted that the November 7 polls will be determined on the basis of good
policies and incorruptible leadership.
“Today the PPP has raised
the bar regarding politics in Ghana, succeeding in the last 4 Years to
educate the masses on important and critical national issues,” he added.
The PPP’s national chairman also used the occasion to state the party’s policy positions on national issues.
These,
he mentioned, include free and compulsory quality education from
Kindergarten to the Senior High School (SHS), election of Municipal,
Metropolitan and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), separation of the
Attorney General’s office from the Ministry of Justice, employment for
all and ending the practice of Members of Parliament (MPs) serving as
cabinet ministers.
Welcoming the PPP to the constituency, the
people of Tepa Ahafo Ano North expressed their frustration and anger
against the NDC and the NPP.
One after the other, they lamented how both parties had deceived them over the years.
Consequently, they promised to chase out the NDC and the NPP from the town should they attempt to come and campaign.
The
PPP further used the occasion to introduce its parliamentary candidate
for Ahafo Ano, Mr. Daniel Kyei, who was a former NDC cadre, to the
people.
The chiefs and opinion leaders on their part praised Mr. Daniel Kyei for his exemplary leadership.
They
recalled with fondness his days as an assembly man and his contribution
to the community, and promised to vote massively for him on November 7
to represent the constituency in Parliament.
