It
is no news now that controversial actress and singer, Diamond Appiah
has joined the bandwagon of celebs who want to go to Parliament House.
And as an aspiring MP, many had expected her to steer clear of controversies but that is not likely to happen anytime soon.
It
seems the Taste My Apple singer is rather courting more controversies
with her recent spats with some of her colleagues in the industry—Mzbel,
Afia Schwarzenegger and Delay on various social media platforms.
Diamond
told Showbiz on Saturday in an interview that it will be very difficult
for her to keep mum when certain issues come up, although she is vying
for the Trobu Constituency seat on the ticket of the United Progressive
Party (UPP).
“I believe in justice and defending the rights
of the vulnerable, that is what I stand for. So if I notice that someone
is constantly abusing and harassing a member of the society for no
apparent reason, I will defend the individual because we are all
Ghanaians and deserve equal rights and respect,” she said.
And
when it was pointed out to her that her recent public squabbles could
negatively affect her political aspirations, the Superman artiste said “My
disagreements with some of my colleagues in the industry has nothing to
do with politics. I would very much appreciate it if Ghanaians don’t
merge the two.
“I’m human and I have the right to speak
on issues of public interest. I don’t think it is fair to link my
personal issues with my colleagues to my political career”, she opined.
Diamond,
who is also an entrepreneur, dismissed the assertion that her feuds
with her colleagues is a cheap attention seeking venture.
“What
more attention do I need as a public figure? That isn’t my intention at
all. I just believe in justice and defending the rights of the
vulnerable. That is all”, she added.
After her official
announcement in January this year to run as a MP, Diamond said she has
been busy with various strategies to help her wrest the seat from the
National Democratic Congress (NDC). “ I am more than equal to the task and I am looking forward to victory in November”, she said.
Touching
on her showbiz side, Diamond said despite the many challenges and the
competition in the showbiz sector, she doesn’t feel pressured since “ I am moving at my own pace”.
“I’m
not really bothered about others because I’m not competing with anyone.
My focus is to work hard to be a better and a more successful person
than I was yesterday. That has been my focus and not what others are
doing,” she stated. |
